Summer Therapeutic Activities Program

The Summer Therapeutic Activities Program (STAP) provides specialized therapy, pet therapy, and outdoor activities that are designed to help children in their daily functioning. The program is tailored to assist children in their development of interpersonal skills, coping abilities, problem solving, and decision making.

Individual therapy, group therapy, peer social interaction, and therapeutic activities encourage children in building new coping mechanisms, and integrating learned techniques into their day-to-day lives.

Program Criteria
Children ages 6-13 with serious emotional disturbances who meet medical necessity for STAP services.

Per Diem

Daily Program Activities
Children will be transported daily to and from the program. Breakfast, lunch, and snack are provided in addition to outside group therapeutic activities, and field trips.

Canine Therapy
Canine Therapy is a unique aspect of the STAP program.  K-9 Therapy will be offered one time per week and will be facilitated by a certified handler and dog of the Academy of Canine Education.  The handler is also an associate member of Therapy Dogs International that requires the dog to:  accept a friendly stranger; sit politely for petting; welcome being groomed and examined; walk loose on a leash; walk through a crowd; sit and down on command/stay in place; come when called; behave politely around other dogs; confident when faced with distractions; be acclimated to infirmities; willing to visit and be accessible for petting; and work well around all types of populations.  This intervention will be facilitated in small group format with the focus on developing appropriate socialization with humans, boundaries, trust, sharing, discipline, caring for another, unconditional love, behavioral modification, the importance of grooming/hygiene and basic physical/nutritional needs.
